Chinese New Year, China, The Father of Chinese Medicine, and Cannabis

2022 is the year of the tiger

Gong hey fat choy!  That’s happy new year in Cantonese.

February marks the lunar new year, celebrated not just by China, but by many other Asian countries as well. 2022 is the year of the tiger, water tiger to be exact.

Our wine and weed tour company has hosted tourists from all over the globe, taking them to meet California’s licensed professional weed farmers, and get an inside look at California cannabis culture on tours of pot farms in California’s famed Emerald Triangle.  We’ve had folks on our 420 tours from every continent except for Africa and Antarctica so far, except for the last two years, where all the tours SF has, including ours, have seen Americans exclusively.  Although we’ve hosted people from many Asian countries over the years, we haven’t had any guests from China yet, but we’re looking forward to hosting our first Chinese guests.

We’ve hosted tourists from all over the word, but we’re still waiting on our first cannasseurs from China

Recreational cannabis doesn’t seem to be that popular in Chinese culture, but cannabis has been used medicinally in China for longer than anywhere else in the world.  The earliest pharmacopeia we have is the Materia medica, as westerners call it, or Shennong Ben Cao Jing, from China, produced nearly 5000 years ago in 2737 BCE.  It’s authorship is accredited to legendary god emperor Shennong, father of Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and agriculture.  He prescribed cannabis for maladies like gout, rheumatism, malaria, and, believe it or not, poor memory.  Cannabis has been in every pharmacopeia the world has produced since then, including The United States Pharmacopeia before it was removed for strictly political reasons in 1942 to strong objections from the American Medical Association, but before anyone else had medical marijuana, China had it.  From China cannabis made its way into ancient India, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, Africa, and eventually, the Americas, but, as with so many other things, China led the world.

The world’s first pharmacopoeia is nearly 5000 years old, and credited to Chinese Emperor Shennong, father of Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and agriculture

The year of the tiger is said to be a dynamic year of change, and it’s our sincere hope that this is the year travel and tourism will finally come back to the world in a major way, and that we will once again host international travelers, and get our first Chinese cannasseurs coming to meet Northern California weed farmers, visit the beautiful Emerald Triangle on a day trip from San Francisco, and enjoy imbibing the Emerald Triangle’s best on our fun and informative cannabis tours.

We hope the year of the tiger is the year world tourism (and weed tourism) will return in a major way
